On Saturday, July 9, Msgr. Harrington led about 130 parishioners on a visit to the Immaculate Conception Seminary in Huntington, Long Island. Three busloads transported everyone to this beautiful facility and its expansive grounds for a mid-day picnic on a day during which rain threatened but never actually fell. After a lunch of hamburgers, hotdogs, turkey burgers, and corn-on-the-cob, there were games for children and adults. In the mid-afternoon, Msgr. Harrington led a tour of the seminary grounds that began with a bilingual rosary. This was followed by an hour-long hike that included a visit to an outdoor amphitheater and a walk through the woods to the Long Island Sound. After a break for refreshments, Msgr. Harrington then conducted a tour of the seminary that culminated in the chapel, where Fr. Jose Henrique (remember him?!) led a bilingual service. There was also opportunity for confessions before the group returned to the Co-Cathedral in the early evening. The event was a success and plans are already being made for a repeat picnic/retreat next summer. Thanks are due to the many parishioners who planned and helped out at the event, and especially to Deacon Manuel Quintana, Sister Tatiana, and parish council members Lea-Suzanne Avila, Ana Fidelia Tavarez, Ede Fox, Ely Soriano, Marlene Cordero-Burgos, and Jessica Figueroa.
There will be a panel discussion about reforming solitary confinement on Sunday, June 5 from 4-6 pm at St, Monica Hall, 47 Sterling Place. The discussion is co-sponsored by St. Joseph’s Co-Cathedral.
“Are you suffering a lot? Do not worry. My Immaculate Heart will be your refuge and the way that will lead you to God.”
